Creating a website is perhaps at the fingertips of many people. However, it might be a tedious job for a few people with no experience in web designing or web publishing. If you are a newbie to website making and are looking for a quick start tool, Lycos has just launched a new website builder, Webon, which can probably assist you.

Webon is a free and easy-to-use tool to create a website especially for people without web publishing experience. Users do not require any HTML coding knowledge to use it. Besides the standard website, Webon allows users to create other types of website such as blogs, photo albums, travelogues or wedding websites. Webon comes with various templates for each category of website. Users could just pick a template and start making the contents. Naturally, users who are familiar with HTML can edit or customize the standard HTML code to make the site more interesting, appealing and dynamic. Webon is a “what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSIWYG)” web design tool.

Once you have designed and completed your masterpiece, users can choose to publish it under Webon’s Free Plan or Personal Plan. If users opt for a free plan, users need to register with Webon and the site created by users will be hosted at “username.webon.com”. However, if users choose to register for a personal plan, then users can get their own domain name, e.g. www.username.com for their sites. The Personal plan costs $8.95 per month, and users can cancel at any time. Other than that, the personal plan also provides additional features and functions, e.g. no limit to the number of images users can have in their account. (Free accounts are limited to 300.)
