The Swiss webcam manufacturer, Logitech, has collaborated with eBay’s popular internet telephone service, Skype, to deliver a new and advanced standard of video calls over the internet. Logitech has released its Logitech Quickcam Version 11.5 software for its three popular webcams: Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000, QuickCam Pro for Notebook and the QuickCam Orbit AF recently. This driver software works well with Skype version 3.6 for Windows to deliver excellent video transmission quality: “High Quality Video”.

According to press statement from Logitech, with the combination of Logitech Quickcam Version 11.5 and Skype Version 3.6, the Logitech webcams are able to make VGA-quality video call at a resolution of 640 x 480pixels (the same resolution as a DVD) at up to 30 frames per second for people using a broadband connection (384kbps connection or higher). To achieve the aforesaid performance, Logitech also highlighted that the requirement for hardware is quite strict. Besides the two softwares, computers with the latest dual-core processors on both ends are also a must. The processors are needed to compress the video signal to fit it on a standard broadband internet connection, then decompress it on the other end.
