After installing Adobe products such as Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended, Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, Adobe Director 11.5 or Adobe packages such as Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium, Design Standard, Web Premium, Web Standard and Master Collection, Adobe Drive will be installed, with the “Adobe Drive” context menu entry added to right click menu of files and folders.

Adobe Drive allows users to connect to Adobe Version Cue CS4 servers, the server-based file management system. With Adobe Drive, the connected servers will appear just like a mounted hard drive or mapped network drive, and user has greater flexibility and convenient to open and save Version Cue files in several ways such as through Windows Explorer or Finder windows as well as the Open, Import, Export, Place, Save, or Save As dialog boxes. Additional feature of Adobe Drive is when right-clicking (Windows) or Control-clicking (Mac OS) a folder, a file, or the desktop, the Adobe Drive CS4 menu will be displayed in the context menu so that user can use the menu to connect to a server, check files in and out manually, and perform other tasks.

Adobe Drive

For Adobe users who don’t have or don’t use Version Cue CS4 servers, Adobe Drive is probably useless. However, in Windows operating system such as Windows 7 and Windows Vista, its right click contextual menu entry will appear permanently and persistently once installed, even though Version Cue CS4 server is not enabled or not turned on.

For users who don’t use Adobe Drive, here’s a few tricks and ways to remove the Adobe Drive CS4 context menu entry in right click menu.

Method 1: Install and Uninstall Adobe Drive CS4

Run the Adobe setup installer to specifically install Adobe Drive CS4 only, and then uninstall Adobe Drive CS4. This workaround may remove and get rid of Adobe Drive CS4 from the system, including right click menu.

Method 2: Unregister Adobe Drive CS4 DLL Files

  1. Open an elevated command prompt.
  2. Run the following command:

    regsvr32 /u "%CommonProgramFiles%\Adobe\Adobe Drive CS4\ADFSMenu.dll"

  3. For 64-bit (x64) Windows operating system, also run the following command:

    regsvr32 /u "%CommonProgramFiles(x86)%\Adobe\Adobe Drive CS4\ADFSMenu.dll"

Method 3: Manually Remove Shell Context Menu Handlers in Registry

  1. Run Registry Editor (RegEdit).
  2. Delete the following registry key entries:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\{C95FFEAE-A32E-4122-A5C4-49B5BFB69795}
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\{C95FFEAE-A32E-4122-A5C4-49B5BFB69795}

Adobe Drive CS4 should no longer appeared or shown in right click context menu for drive, folder or file.
