aps.jpgIBM has released its Active Protection System (APS) Version 1.52 for its notebooks using ThinkVantage Techonologies. IBM’s Active Protection System is not the latest technology from IBM. ThinkPad R50 and T41 have featured this technology for quite some time. The APS is a protection system for the ThinkPads’ internal hard drive. When a ThinkPad notebook is accelerated, the sensor inside the notebook will trigger a software applet to park the hard disk properly. The risk of data loss will be reduced in the event the notebook is dropped hard. This is because the read/write head of the hard drive is parked and it won’t crash onto the platter when the notebook drops. The working principle of this protection system is parallel to the air bag function for cars.

IBM ThinkPad ThinkVantage Active Protection System 1.52 can be used for Window 2000, Window XP and Window Vista. This version supports the ability to modify the pen delay time in the APS Control Panel. It also solves the problem of yellow bangs appearing on the disk drive and USB memory devices in the Device Manager. APS 1.52 is compatible with ThinkPad R50, R50p, R51, R52, R60;ThinkPad T41, T41p, T42, T42p, T43, T43p;ThinkPad T60, T60p;ThinkPad X40 (*1), X41, X41 Tablet, X60, X60s, X60 Tablet;ThinkPad Z60m, Z60t, Z61e, Z61m, Z61p, Z61t.
