Wheelchair-bound users can enjoy the recent innovation by Dynamic Controls to control the wheelchair via Apple’s iPhone. The wheelchair is connected to users’ iPhone via Bluetooth; users get information about the wheelchair in real time including speed and directions. The wheelchair is fitted with a cradle to mount the iPhone or iPod on the wheelchair as well as a charger for the iPhone. The app can also detect many problems with the wheelchair and report accordingly. Expected to be launched in April 2010, the new technology operates with an iPhone 3G, 3GS, iPod touch V2.0 and 3.0.

The freedom and independence offered to the wheelchair-bound via this device is immense. Apple’s iPhone controlled wheelchair is touted to be the future of wheelchairs. It is convenient to control the wheelchair from the iPhone; more importantly, every effort at making movement easier and communication more effective will have an impact on wheelchair users’ lives. Thus, the idea of iPhone-controlled wheelchair paves the way for even the handicapped to control their lives more dynamically.
