Nokia unveiled a new email service for its Nokia Series 40 handset users today. Series 40 handset users can sign up for free email accounts on its Ovi internet service center. Undoubtedly giving a free new email account is no longer an effective marketing strategy to create that “wow” factor amongst consumers nowadays. However, Nokia believes this new free email service for mobile users can still attract consumers from emerging markets especially developing countries. Nokia does not focus on pushing this service to the world’s more advanced mobile users but targets buyers from this market segment by providing the free service. Nokia believes, a free email from Mail On Ovi could be the first email account for many of these consumers.

Nokia Series 40 handset owners can sign-up for their free email account directly with Mail on Ovi from their handsets. Mail on Ovi Live offers 12 languages for users to choose from, e.g. English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Hindi, Bengali, Tagalog, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Malaysia and others. Currently there are more than 110 million Series 40 handsets sold worldwide. Users who are using Nokia Series 40 handsets such as Nokia 5610 XpressMusic, Nokia 5310 XpressMusic, 6260, 6600 slide, 7310, and 8800, etc can sign up with Mail on Ovi Live to get a free email account effective today.
