PMC-Sierra, the leading industry solution provider in communication has just demonstrated the indurtry’s first 10G EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) that targeted for FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) applications during the OptiNet China Conference 2008. PMC-Sierra has come out with the reference design board comprising both OLT (Optical Line Terminal) and ONU (Optical Network Units). Named as PAS8001 and PAS9001 respectively, it emulates the central office environment with OLT connecting to ONUs that are situated at user’s homes. Surprisingly, it is able to scale up to 10Gbps serving as back bone network technology supplying more than 100 households with distributed bandwidth.

By offering optical fiber connectivity, the network is no longer a bottleneck in delivering great multimedia service to consumers. Meanwhile, PMC-Sierra always ensure the backward compatibility with DBA (Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation) and interoperability with third party solution for easy implementation. It offers the total solution space by validating the compliancy to IEEE 802.3av with standard encryption algorithm for enhanced data protection.

With all these in place, user will be able to enjoy Triple Play services with web surfing, audio files download and HD video streaming simultaneously without compromise in network performance. More importantly, PMC-Sierra is working hand in hand with service providers to further reduce implementation and maintenance cost for more widely deployment.
