When installing Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 (VS08), the setup installation process may fail or incomplete with the following error message or something similar, with the rest of the computer not skipped, bypassed and not attempted to be installed. Sometimes, the same error happens while installing Visual Studio Orcas or other VS related products too.

[08/08/08,18:38:88] Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 64bit Prerequisites (x64): [2] d:\setup\..\wcu\64bitprereq\x64\vs_bsln.exe could not be unpackaged because it is not a cabinet.
[08/08/08,18:38:88] setup.exe: [2] ISetupComponent:re/Post/Install() failed in ISetupManager::InternalInstallManager() with HRESULT -2147467259.
[08/08/08,18:38:88] VS70pgui: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 64bit Prerequisites (x64) is not installed.
[08/08/08,18:38:88] VS70pgui: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft Document Explorer 2008 was not attempted to be installed.

The error is usually occurred when the Visual Studio 2008 installation ISO file is corrupted or just been partially downloaded. It’s it’s physical DVD disc media, it may caused by the faulty and unreliable DVD disc problem.

To fix the Visual Studio 2008 installation issue, try to re-download the Visual Studio 2008 ISO file again, where using Microsoft’s File Transfer Manager is recommended. Or, try copying the content of VS2008 DVD media from disc to hard disk and run the installation from hard disk. Ensure that the size and hash checksum values of the ISO are correct and matched with the official records on Microsoft website. Installation should be completed successfully with a good ISO or disc.
