HECToR (High-End Computing Terascale Resource), a supercomputer features the power of 12,000 desktop has been unveiled. This powerful supercomputer can make 63 million calculations every second and it is the fastest computer in UK. The invention of HECToR will assist scientists and researchers to resolve their calculation problems substantially. For instance, scientists working in field ranging from cosmology and atomic physics to disaster simulation and healthcare will improve their findings and studies with this super high end computer.

HECToR is a public project but funded by the UK Government. This huge and powerful machine is housed in 60 wardrobe-sized cabinets in the University of Edinburgh’s advanced computing centre near the Scottish capital.
