battery-walkman.jpgThe Japan-based consumer electronics giant, Sony has created an innovative biological friendly battery that generates electricity from sugar. It’s the bio battery casing of vegetable-based plastic which measures only 39 (width) x 39 (height) x 39 (depth) mm and it can generate up to 50mW of power for a MP3 player and a pair of speakers, as what you see in the photo.

According to the company, “Sugar is a naturally occurring energy source produced by plants through photosynthesis.” “It is therefore regenerative, and can be found in most areas of the earth, underlining the potential for sugar-based batteries as an ecologically-friendly energy device of the future.”

Sony will continue its development of bio battery to enhance the durability, aiming for commercial use in the future.
