VIA Technologies, the famous Taiwanese fab-less manufacturer has demonstrated the first Pico-ITXe ultra small form factor platform during ESC 2008 event held in Boston. Named as EPIA-P710, it utilizes VIA C7 processor running at 1GHz coupled with latest VX800 chipset to provide a complete platform solution targeted for data acquisition, industrial automation, kiosk, signage and other embedded market segments.

Measuring at merely 10cm X 7.2cm, the platform integrates two SUMIT (Stackable Unified Module Interconnect Technology) open standard QMS connectors supporting various IO interfaces such as 2 PCI Express x1 lane, 1 PCI Express x4 lane, 3 USB host ports, LPC, SPI interfaces and more. It further backed up by maximum of 2GB DDR2 memory, one PATA and two SATA interface for external hard disk connectivity. Besides rich IO ports, it offers advanced VIA Chrome9 IGP supporting DirectX 9 and MPEG2/4, VC1 and WMV9 hardware acceleration that offloads CPU in media processing.

No pricing information yet, the Pico-ITXe will be available to developers by December 2008 upon request. Hopefully we will able to see VIA Nano processor being built into this ultra small form factor board in short future.
