RedSn0w Free Download to Jailbreak and Unlock iPhone 2G and 3G or iPod Touch 1G and 2G

Redsn0w is a multi-platform, multi-device unlocking and jailbreaking (iPhone 2G only) soft tool for the original iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G (but not iPhone 3Gs), first generation iPod Touch 1G and second generation iPod Touch 2G on firmware 3.0. Redsn0w is available for both Windows and Mac OS X users. Redsn0w replaces and provides functionality that similar to QuickPwn, earlier version of jailbreaking tool for firmware OS 2.2.1.

Redsn0w was initially released as Redsn0w Lite which allows tethered jailbreak 2nd generation iPod Touch 2G, which has never been jail-broke before, which has the disadvantage of iPod Touch cannot boot without assistance from a tethered computer. Redsn0w Lite subsequently evolves to support semi-tethered jaibreak where iPod Touch 2G can be rebooted, but jailbreak functionality will be lost.

Subsequently, iPhone Dev Team published Redsn0w beta, the first iPod Touch 2G jailbreak Tool for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Initial beta only runs from command line with no GUI interface though, until Redsnow 0.7, which has since been updated to Redsn0w 0.7.2.

Redsn0w can jailbreak the following devices:

• iPhone 3G with firmware OS 3.0 at baseband 04.26.08
• iPhone 2G with firmware OS 3.0
• 2nd Generation iPod Touch (2G) with firmware OS 3.0
• 1st Generation iPod Touch (1G) with firmware OS 3.0

Redsn0w can unlock the following devices with BootNeuter:

• iPhone 2G on firmware OS 3.0

Some important notes before using Redsn0w to jailbreak and/or unlock iPhone and iPod Touch:

• Redsn0w does not work on iPhone 3Gs (uses Purplera1n instead).
• Redsn0w can jailbreak and unlock only original iPhone 2G on iPhone OS 3.0. iPhone 3G and 3GS use Ultrasn0w instead.

To use Redsn0w, download and install iTunes 8.2, and then upgrade the device in iTunes to firmware version 3.0 (iPod Touch users who need to pay $9.95 to upgrade can use the hack to upgrade iPod Touch to firmware version 3.0 for free), and run redsn0w to activate and jailbreak the device (and if you are using an original iPhone 2G, it will unlock it too).
